What are cosmetic fillers?

Cosmetic fillers are injectable gels that help correct wrinkles, lines, and creases on the face or add volume that has been lost to the natural aging process. They can also be used to fill in scars. Fillers use different materials, such as collagen or hyaluronic acid — a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and helps retain moisture. Different fillers provide varying levels of firmness. Dr. Harris helps you decide which filler is a good choice for your objectives.

What are the cosmetic applications of fillers?

Cosmetic fillers are often used to fill in deep facial lines, like the ones around your mouth (marionette lines and nasolabial folds), wrinkling or creasing in the chin, or along the sides of the lower face (the “pre-jowl” area). They can also be used to fill in finer lines around the mouth and to add volume to the cheeks, lips, or under eye area. Some fillers can even be used on the backs of the hands to help hands look more youthful.

What is the filler procedure like?

During your consultation, Dr. Harris discusses your goals and expectations. Based on your objectives and an evaluation of the treatment area, Dr. Harris recommends a filler. During the procedure itself, he cleans the injection sites and applies a topical anesthetic. The number of injections sites depends on the size of the area being treated. Most procedures take no more than 20-30 minutes. You can resume your regular routine right after treatment.

Perlane

Perlane is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own hyaluronic acid, adding volume and fullness to the skin. The average size of the particles and injection depth are what separate Perlane from other fillers, making it a good choice for more severe facial wrinkles that benefit from a deeper injection into the skin. The three-dimensional Perlane gel particles are hydrophilic molecules, attracting and binding to water molecules as they degrade, and helping to maintain volume augmentation for about 6 months.

Belotero®

Belotero Balance is a prescription hyaluronic acid injection that is approved to temporarily smooth out and fill in moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds.Over time, skin begins to lose naturally occurring components such as collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, which leaves the skin more prone to develop etched-in lines and wrinkles. Radiesse®
